THE ROBERT WAN GUIDE

Why Do Tahitian Pearl Necklaces Vary in Price?

Robert Wan Tahitian pearl necklace

Two necklaces can look similar in a photograph without containing comparable pearls. To understand a quotation, consider the pearl selection and the finished creation together, rather than a diameter or a quality label in isolation.

What goes into a necklace’s value

Size

Larger pearls are generally rarer when other characteristics are comparable. Diameter alone, however, does not determine the price.

Lustre, surface and nacre

The sharpness of reflections, surface characteristics and nacre quality all contribute to an assessment.

Shape and colour

Robert Wan presents round, baroque and other pearl shapes in a variety of colours and overtones. Begin with the character you enjoy wearing.

Harmony across the strand

Consider the selection as a whole: how colours, shapes and sizes complement one another, or contrast intentionally, gives a necklace its identity.

Length and composition

Ask for the finished length, pearl count and size range. Two necklaces of the same length do not necessarily contain the same number of pearls.

Clasp and craftsmanship

Ask which metal, clasp, additional stones and finishing details are included. Compare the complete creation, not just the pearls.

Understand pearl grading

Robert Wan, GIA and pearl education

Understanding a pearl begins with learning how to assess it. Our Journal explores Robert Wan’s connection with the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), including the Robert Wan Educational Wing at its Carlsbad campus.

10 mm or 13 mm: a choice, not a formula

When comparing two designs, keep your intended length and style in mind, then consider the lustre, surface, colour and harmony of each selection. Moving from 10 mm to 13 mm does not, on its own, establish a fixed percentage increase in price.

What to ask before comparing two quotations

  • What are the pearl diameters, shapes and quality criteria?
  • Does the photograph show the proposed piece or a representative creation?
  • What is the finished length, and which clasp and settings are included?
  • Which currency is quoted? What delivery charges, taxes or duties still need confirming for my destination?

A creation shaped by your priorities

Start with the colour and style you love, then explore your preferred dimensions in our configurator. Whether you are choosing for yourself or a gift, develop your idea and request a personalised quotation before deciding.

Understand the selection. Then imagine your own.

Choose your preferences in the Robert Wan builder, preview your design and send a price request. The preview is illustrative: the actual pearls and the details of the proposal remain subject to confirmation with our team.

This guide explains buying criteria. It is not a priced quotation or a guarantee of resale value.
